GLENFIDDICH RARE COLLECTION VINTAGE 1978

Glenfiddich 1978 Vintage Reserve was selected on 9th October 2010 by a global panel, with a nosing and tasting conducted live via the microblogging site, Twitter.
The very first of its kind, this groundbreaking virtual selection was Glenfiddich Malt Master, Brian Kinsman's inaugural Vintage Reserve selection. After two hours of tweeted discussion, in front of an online audience, cask number 28152 was selected from a shortlist of four American oak hogshead casks, all filled within minutes of each other, from the same batch, on 25th September 1978.
In nosing and tasting samples of the four diverse whiskies, the panel of whisky bloggers from around the world was able to explore first hand the enormous impact oak has on the maturation process and see for themselves how each cask imbues the whisky with its own unique character.

Brian Kinsman commented: "It was truly exciting to be part of such a pioneering process. To have an expert selection panel, based all over the world, meet virtually, in real time, for a nosing and tasting was fantastic. Tweeting seemed to help people refine their thoughts and impressions of the key aromas and tastes they picked up on. I'm delighted that cask number 28152 has been selected as the 2010 Vintage Reserve; it is an exceptional single malt with classic Glenfiddich fruit characteristics on the nose."

BUNNAHABHAIN TOITEACH SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY

Toiteach (pronounced Toch Chach) embraces a powerful proposition: the foundation for a variation on the famous Bunnahahain Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky. What if a touch of smoke from the peated malted barley was introduced in the distillation process? The Islay character is quite distinctive from that of the Bunnahabhain single malt, known for its gentle taste. Toiteach means smoky in Scots Gaelic, reflecting the seeming contradiction that this peaty paradox represents.

This bottling offers the connoisseur an opportunity to try something truly unique and beguiling in nature. The liquid has been masterfully distilled and quietly matured at the distillery, never for a moment leaving Islay during this process.

GLENMORANGIE FINEALTA SINGLE MALT SCOTCH HISKY

Glenmorangie Finealta is a painstaking recreation of a recipe dating back to 1903. Matured in a combination of American white oak casks and Spanish Oloroso sherry casks this whisky is unusual for its light touch of peatiness - a reminder of a time when Glenmorangie dried its barley in a peat fired kiln.

Distillery archives show that at this time, Glenmorangie Highland Single Malt was being served at The Savoy in London. Making this whisky a window onto a grander age, where optimistic young souls toasted sweeping changes within Art, fashion, and technology. And where society demanded a drink of both depth and distinction.

Glenmorangie Finealta is the second release in the prestigious Private Edition range: carefully selected, limited edition whiskies chosen from the 'cabinet of curiosities' of Dr Bill Lumsden, head of Glenmorangie Whisky Creation Team.

BALVENIE 17 YO MADEIRA CASK Single Malt Scotch Whisky

In 2009 The Balvenie released a scotch that is an impressive addition to their fine whiskies, a 17 year old finish-aged in Madeira casks. It is a scotch for those who enjoy the softer side of a Speyside accented with the intriguing characteristics of Madeira wines. As appealing as it sounds, there is a catch: as many of my favorite scotches go, this is a limited edition bottling. Though while it's around it is worthy of a taste and is a great predictor of what a whisky can become with a little Madeira thrown into the mix.
The pack also features notes about the unique flora and fauna of the island, which echo the distinctive flavour of this delicious whisky – comes highly recommended!

Excellent single-malt whisky from the Glenfiddich distillery (which in the Scottish language means “Deer Valley”) is located in a picturesque valley of Fiddich river. The secret of the taste of this 12-year-old whisky lies in its distillate being composed on the basis of cereal and crystal-clear water derived exclusively from Robbie Dhu springs, as well as its 12 year minimum maturing process in oak casks, previously holding Cuban rum, USA bourbon or Spanish sherry. The mild taste of fresh pear and oak flavor are distinguishing marks of this whisky.

GLENMORANGIE QUINTA RUBAN Single Malt Scoch Whisky

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is a velvety-textured single malt whisky, for confident, colourful, dynamic luxury spirit drinkers who like to take the lead. A mature Glenmorangie that is transferred from the original ex-bourbon cask and then extra matured or “finished” in port pipes, shipped from the ‘Quintas’ or wine estates of Portugal. Maturation in the ruby port pipes develops The Quinta Ruban into a voluptuously smooth spirit with a complex balance of sweet and dry flavours that engage the entire palate and envelope it in an intriguing balance of smooth velvet and crisp, cooling textures. Non chill-filtered and with an ABV of 46%, its key flavour notes are rich, chocolately and minty. Aroma: One sniff and you’re immediately transported to a traditional Christmas dinner party, in a candle-lit dining room with the aroma of just-peeled mandarin oranges and Belgian chocolate mint crisps. Walnut shells have been thrown on the roaring fire where their scent mixes with the lingering aroma of nutmeg from the Christmas pudding and the warm, musky scent of sandalwood that emanates from the wood-panelled room Taste: A caress of silk velvet on the tongue gives way to a swathe of rich, dark chocolate-enrobed walnuts leaving in their wake the lemony-rose jelly texture of Turkish delight. Then sugar-coated crystallised orange segments emerge, countered by crisp mint chocolate, adding a chiffon like texture Finish: Lingering memories of dark minty chocolate.
