COLD RIVER POTATO VODKA

Cold River Vodka is a 100 percent Maine potato vodka, which turned an economical crop into a top-shelf-spirit - and added value to Maine's potatoes and reputation for high-quality goods in the process. A super-premium, martini-quality, gluten-free spirit, our Classic Vodka is distinctive among the world's most sophisticated spirits.

Cold River Vodka is The Spirit of Maine… and it embodies that spirit perfectly. It’s authentic. It’s complex but not complicated. Each bottle of vodka is numbered by hand to reflect its batch and ensure its exceptionality and excellence.

The vodka’s water is sourced from the Cold River Aquifer. Maine’s Cold River flows out of Evans Notch and meanders its way through the former potato fields of forested Fryeburg, and filters through miles of underground granite into the Cold River Aquifer, home of some of earth’s purest and most refreshing water.

The potatoes are grown from seed to spud at the own family-owned Green Thumb Farms in Fryeburg, Maine. At Maine Distilleries, from the potato farmer to the distiller, there is a passion for Maine and its roots (literally) that will be infused into every bottle of the clear, distinctive vodka

CHOPIN POTATO VODKA

Produced only from mid-September into early December, Chopin Potato is crafted from potatoes grown naturally – without chemicals or pesticides – by select local farmers in the fertile Podlasie countryside. These are harvested late in the season to ensure an exceptionally high starch content (22% vs. the average 12%), for a richer, more flavorful vodka.

There are no secrets and no additives in the creation of Chopin Potato. Each bottle contains only potatoes, yeast and purified artesian well water. These three ingredients – simple but superior in quality – are transformed into premium vodka through a method that has changed little over the centuries, including the use of a traditional copper column still.

Approximately 55 tons (or 50 metric tons) of potatoes are processed each day at the historic Chopin distillery. As many as 40 potatoes (seven pounds/three kilograms) are required to make one 750ml bottle of vodka. Cleaned and left unpeeled, the potatoes are pressure-cooked to create a “mash,” which is fermented for three days. The fermented mash is distilled four times, creating a spirit that is almost 100% alcohol. This spirit is then transported to Chopin’s bottling plant in nearby Siedlce, where it is blended with artesian well water and filtered five times before its final destination – the iconic, frosted bottle that bears the profile of the brand’s inspiration, Polish composer Frederic Chopin, and the signature of master distiller Waldemar Durakiewicz.

JUNIPERO GIN

Junípero Gin is made by hand in the classic "distilled dry gin" tradition, utilizing morethan a dozen botanicals in their natural state, in a small copper pot still at littledistillery on Potrero Hill in San Francisco. The history of gin goes back at least to the mid-1600's in Holland, but its true antecedents are much earlier, those first experiments in the ancient and mysterious art of distilling in the presence of herbs and spices. The predominant flavor and aroma of a modern gin will always come from juniper (dried berries of the "common juniper," Juniperus communis). But the wonderful challenge for the distiller is in selecting and blending from a wide variety of additional, exotic botanicals in order to impart a uniquely satisfying, balanced character to his gin. At Anchor Distilling they have taken delight in the adventure of researching and experimenting with many such botanicals. The final formula must remain a secret, but company hope you will agree that they have achieved a distinctive, intriguing complexity in the Junípero Gin: light and crisp and clean, combining a deep and mysterious spiciness with subtle delicacy.

CHAIRMAN'S RESERVE SPICED RUM

Chairman’s Reserve Spiced Rum is the latest addition to St. Lucia Distiller’s portfolio of world class rums. The rum contains local spices and fruits including cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, vanilla, coconut, all spice, lemon and orange. Producer have also added Richeria Grandis – known locally as “Bois Bande” – a bark renowned in the Caribbean as a potent aphrodisiac to give an added kick to the rum.

These spices and fruits are added to rums distilled in copper alembic pot and continuous stills that are then aged in Kentucky Bourbon barrels to give a complex and balanced spice rum. Distillers have found Chairman’s Reserve Spice benefits from a combination of steeping certain spices and Bois Bande in the rum for up to a year while the other ingredients are added during the blending process. In this way they can bring out the flavour of the spices and fruits while preserving the complexity and harmony of the underlying rum.

BELL'S 8YO BLENDES SCOTCH WHISKY

Back in the 1850's I discovered that blending together several fine whiskies pleases more palates than one whisky unmixed. And to this day, each drop of Bell's is made from a select blend of fine malt and grain whiskies, skilfully married together by our master blender.

The unique flavour of Bell's Blended Scotch Whisky comes from some of the finest malt whiskies in Scotland - from the fresh, sweet malts of Speyside to the smoky sea salt of the Islands - all matured in selected oak casks for a richer flavour. The malt at the heart of the Bell's blend is rich, spiced and nutty (a bit like ginger cake), and comes from our home, the Blair Athol distillery.

LEOPOLD'S AMERICAN SMALL BATCH GIN

Leopold’s American Small Batch Gin have been distilling since 2002.
Its hand bottled, hand labeled, and hand numbered.

Most gin is produced by placing spirit in a potstill and adding the entire range of botanicals in the still before distilling the entire steep in one run. Not all botanicals (juniper, coriander, etc.) have the same boiling point, so when a distiller distills all the botanicals together, searching for the best juniper flavor, for example, he/she is overboiling the coriander.

When botanicals are overboiled, tannin-like flavors are extracted, drying out the final Gin. Leopold's take a different tack by placing each individual botanical in the still and distill them off separately. They carefully make cuts like you would for a whiskey: heads, hearts, and tails. The heart portion is when, as an example, the fruity-floral nose of the juniper is at its cleanest. After the heart has been collected, the refined juniper nose gets muddled and cloying, smelling and tasting a bit like pine trees. Leopold's discard this portion, favoring the cleaner hearts portion, and this lends the spirit its rounded, clean finish that is unlike any other gin in the world.

Leopold’s American Small Batch Gin apply this method for the rest of their botanicals: Orris Root, Cardamon, Coriander, and hand-zested Valencia Oranges and Pummelos, carefully extracting the best aromas that these botanicals have to offer. The result is a softer, brighter, and more approachable spirit.
