GLENFIDDICH RARE COLLECTION VINTAGE 1978

Glenfiddich 1978 Vintage Reserve was selected on 9th October 2010 by a global panel, with a nosing and tasting conducted live via the microblogging site, Twitter.

The very first of its kind, this groundbreaking virtual selection was Glenfiddich Malt Master, Brian Kinsman's inaugural Vintage Reserve selection. After two hours of tweeted discussion, in front of an online audience, cask number 28152 was selected from a shortlist of four American oak hogshead casks, all filled within minutes of each other, from the same batch, on 25th September 1978.

In nosing and tasting samples of the four diverse whiskies, the panel of whisky bloggers from around the world was able to explore first hand the enormous impact oak has on the maturation process and see for themselves how each cask imbues the whisky with its own unique character.

Brian Kinsman commented: "It was truly exciting to be part of such a pioneering process. To have an expert selection panel, based all over the world, meet virtually, in real time, for a nosing and tasting was fantastic. Tweeting seemed to help people refine their thoughts and impressions of the key aromas and tastes they picked up on. I'm delighted that cask number 28152 has been selected as the 2010 Vintage Reserve; it is an exceptional single malt with classic Glenfiddich fruit characteristics on the nose."

CANARIO CACHACA

CanaRio comes from the house of Fazenda Soledade in Rio state, a Brazilian family enterprise established in 1827, and has been producing premium cachaça ever since. CanaRio Cachaça is produced using the elaborate, and for cachaça unusual, method of double distillation in copper pot stills. Only fresh sugar-cane juice is used for producing CanaRio Cachaça. The sugar-cane fields lie at an altitude of 800 m in the mountains of São Fidelis. This region is famous for its individual and specialised cultivation of sugar-cane. After around one year of growth, the select, fresh sugar cane is harvested by hand. The heart of the sugar cane is carefully separated from the rest for the distillation process and pressed to produce sugar-cane juice within 24 hours. The importance of the pure, clear, soft water from the distillery’s own well for both the fermentation process and the ultimate quality of the product should not be underestimated.

ABSOLUT GRAPEVINE VODKA

Launched in January 2012

The main ingredients in Absolut Grapevine are Absolut Vodka and white grapes, Dragon fruit and papaya flavor. Absolut Vodka is made from water and winter wheat. The water comes from a deep well in Åhus where it’s protected from impurities. The winter wheat is also grown in Åhus and differs from other crops: it’s sown one fall, and harvested the next one. Days in between it grows under the Swedish snow developing its hard grain. Also, the use of fertilizers is minimized. Of course, the white grapes, dragon fruit and papaya are as natural as the rest of the ingredients.
